Pathway after SPM that you may take:

  • STPM

Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia, commonly known as STPM is a Malaysian pre-university program. After completing this program, students can pursue their degrees in any university. The duration of the study is about 18 months, making it one of the best options for students who would like to pursue competitive degrees in public universities. To be enrolled in a medical degree, you need to take the Science stream and obtain at least BBB, ABC or AAC in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics.

  • Matriculation

The Ministry of Education established the matriculation program as a pre-university course that allows students to pursue their degrees. It is kind of similar to STPM, but the duration of the study is only about 12 months. However, the Minister of Education has established the 24 months program for the past few years, and they will determine which program will be suitable for the students according to their results. So if you want to pursue a degree in medicine, you can take the Science stream, and you must obtain a minimum CGPA 3.00 in 3 subjects in the matriculation program: Biology, Physics or Mathematics . But this is the minimum entry qualification only; there is no guarantee to get it.

  • Foundation

The study duration for the foundation is about 12 months, and of course you need to take the science stream. For the foundation program, you will usually pursue your degree in the same university you take for your foundation. The results you must get for the Foundation program are the same as the matriculation. However, it is also just a minimum qualification that there is no guarantee to get.
